Settings Guide

Access Settings by right-clicking the menu bar icon and selecting "Settings..."

Breathing Pattern Configuration

Presets Dropdown

Quick selection of scientifically-backed breathing patterns:

  • Custom: Your personalized settings
  • Resonant (4-4): 4 sec in, 4 sec out
  • Resonant (5-5): 5 sec in, 5 sec out
  • 4-7-8: Relaxation breathing
  • Box Breathing: Military focus technique

Timing Sliders

Inhale Duration (1-10 seconds)

  • Default: 4 seconds
  • Longer = deeper, more calming breaths
  • Shorter = more energizing

Hold After Inhale (0-10 seconds)

  • Default: 0 seconds
  • Add retention for box breathing or 4-7-8 patterns

Exhale Duration (1-10 seconds)

  • Default: 4 seconds
  • Longer exhales activate parasympathetic nervous system

Hold After Exhale (0-10 seconds)

  • Default: 0 seconds
  • Pause before next breath cycle

Display Options

Icon Style

  • Animated Circle: Visual expanding/contracting circle
  • Text with Countdown: Shows arrows with seconds remaining (↑4, ↓3)

Choose based on your visual preference and screen space.

Feedback Settings

Sound Notifications

  • ON: Gentle beep at each phase transition
  • OFF: Silent operation (default)

Useful when you can't watch the screen continuously.

Saving Changes

  • OK Button (or Enter): Saves settings and closes window
  • Cancel Button (or Esc): Discards changes and closes window

Changes apply immediately to active breathing sessions.

Settings Tips

  1. Start Simple: Use presets before creating custom patterns
  2. Gradual Changes: Adjust timings by 0.5 seconds at a time
  3. Personal Comfort: There's no "perfect" pattern - find what feels natural
  4. Experiment: Try different display modes to see what helps you focus
